Over 20 years ago stun guns had 25,000 volts and were just as effective as the multi-million volt stun guns available today.
So, why do stun guns come in such high voltage? Its because the buying public isn’t very bright. People think that its the voltage that makes a stun gun effective. The truth is its not the voltage…its the amperage. But since the public is ignorant about this, the stun gun manufacturers use voltage to market their stun guns.
Since they are in competition with each other, the stun gun makers keep raising the voltage so the customer thinks the higher voltage stun gun is more effective. I won’t even go into the feasibility of the batteries used in stun guns even generating this kind of voltage.
The truth is that voltage does nothing but carry the amperage. 25,000 volts is plenty to penetrate 1/2 inch of clothing. The amperage needed to be effective is between 5 and 8 milliamps. Very small amount. It has to be because 1 amp will kill a person.

When measuring voltage, a main factor in effectiveness is also the spread of the probes. The further the distance between the probes, the better. Obviously the more batteries and the more powerful the power source, the more effective the effect will be.

It’s funny how the public can be lead to believe just about anything about stun guns, good or bad, right or wrong. Just like the show Tool Time…it’s about “more power”!

Stun guns are getting more and more voltage. Some are as high as 5,000,000 volts. Watch out bad guys we’ve got powerful stun guns.
wow good info jus got one as a present and it says 600,000 volts but doesn’t list the amount of amp. The probes are really close together so I am taking it back for a new one more spread out, and one with amp listed.
Bigger is better. That is the popular belief. With very little understanding about how stun guns really work, people almost always choose the higher voltages.
This follows the philosophy of more is better. I just want enough power to take down an aggressor effectively.
